UK encourages the engineering students to do co-ops. And what co-ops are, are a way for the students to apply what they learned in the classroom to the engineering field. So you'll go with different companies and be there for a semester long. So you have three or four months to apply what you've learned, to learn more about the company, feel more comfortable with the company. So you get a lot more out of co-ops and say a smaller, shorter term internship.

A co-op experience actually gives you a much deeper look inside of engineering, that you have the people skills. You have to have communication skills. You have to have problems solving skills. And that's something you can get out of a co-op experience, you can't get the class.

Going into a career fair on your resume showing that you have a lot of co-op experience, employers will just highlight that. They'll say this is the kind of guy or girl I want in my program. The person who has one or two or any experience. And that will get you from point A to point B very easily on the track to your career.

It's kind of like an extended interview. You get a lot of time to show them what you can do. And then they can also give you feedback on how you can improve.
